What for
The pole carries the transmitter, not the XLR socket
A plug-on transmitter on a boom-mounted microphone hangs on the XLR connector alone. Every move of the pole makes it swing and tug at the microphone’s socket. The Plug-on Cage takes its weight: the cage holds the transmitter and the arm clips to the pole. The XLR stays a connection, not a hanger.

3D printing
You can tell it is printed. And that is fine.
On the surface you will see layer lines and a fine texture, and every unit looks slightly different. That is a feature of the technology, not a defect: the lines do not affect strength or fit. Anything that could weaken the part is rejected at quality control. More about 3D printing.
